It's time for the world to grow up and realize religion bashing is no longer high art
In my younger days, I enjoyed some of the shots at different religions. The South Park episode about Mormons, Dogma, Piss Christ, The Life of Brian, (more recently) the Book of Mormon musical, etc. I took the fact that I enjoyed these as some kind of badge of honor, considering myself cultured and thick-skinned and an independent thinker. But as I’ve gotten older, I’ve gotten very tired of those things. They are boring. They are obvious. They are trite. It’s very easy to take shots at religion these days and come across as edgy or erudite, but it was very hard to do so when religion, specifically Christianity, was the zeitgeist. Clearly, that day passed long ago. Come talk to me when your art is a commentary on something that actually needs challenging. Until then, you are just whipping a battered and broken outcast while the mob jeers the object of your scorn and hails you as an “artist.”
